Apple iPhone spyware issue

Apple has released a software patch to block a so-called ‘Zero-click’  spyware that could infect both iPhones and iPads.

It is recommended that customers update their iPhone and iPad software as soon as possible to help protect their devices against this issue.

The software patch is called iOS 14.8 and iPadOS 14.8 and will be available to all iPhone and iPad users. The download is 350mb and can only be done via a Wi-Fi network.

Users can update their software by:

  1. Choosing Settings from their Home screen
  2. Select General.
  3. Select Software Update.
  4. Select the latest software update available.
  5. Select Install.

Banking apps respond to fingerprint authentication issue on Samsung Galaxy S10 and Samsung Galaxy Note10 devices

Samsung Galaxy Note10, Note10+, Note10+ 5G and Samsung Galaxy S10, S10+ and S10 5G users will be unable to download RBS apps, which includes NatWest, until the fingerprint authentication issue has been fixed.

The issue was discovered last week, when users with certain screen protectors found that their device could be unlocked by anyone using the fingerprint authentication system.

RBS have encouraged those with the app already installed to remove any biometrics saved on their device.

Meanwhile, other banking apps have issued a warning and recommend that users turn off fingerprint login. Some banking apps have stated that biometrics and fingerprint login can be set up again once a fix is released by Samsung.

Samsung are aware of the issue and will be gradually sending out a biometrics update.

To remove any biometrics saved on affected devices, customers should follow the below steps:

1. From the home screen, swipe up to access apps.

2. Choose Settings.

3. Choose Biometrics and security.

4. Choose Fingerprints.

5. Enter the device’s current PIN or password.

6. Choose a fingerprint from the list of available fingerprints.

7. Choose Remove in the top right-hand corner.

8. Choose Remove again to confirm.
